Captain Jay
A licensed USCG Captain and registered Maine Guide. His passion (obsession) for fishing started at a young age fishing on local ponds and lakes of southern Maine. Over the past 15-20 years, his primary focus has become saltwater fishing (primarily chasing striped bass on the fly or light tackle). When not working as a construction professional, he enjoys spending every available moment chasing fish and sharing that passion with friends, family, and guests. Captain Jay lives in Scarborough with his wife Christa and their daughter Eloise "Elle."
Morning Flight
A Grady White 21' center console with 200HP Yamaha outboard. The perfect boat to hit all of the local inshore fishing while offering a comfortable seaworthy ride that's safe for a cruise with the family. The boat is ideal for fishing parties in the 2-4 range and harbor cruises up to 6.
Tux
Tux was a wavy-haired black lab mix adopted from the Bangor Humane Society in 2009. He enjoyed countless trips to Pine Point beach and was aboard for many boat rides and fishing trips. His love for the water could only be surpassed by his love for ice cream. Sadly we lost Tux just shy of his 14th birthday at the beginning of 2023, but his happy spirit lives on.

Prior to you charter, Captain Jay will be in touch to go over some of the basics before the charter. That will include what to bring, where and what time to meet up, etc. The morning of the charter we will depart from one of the two designated locations depending on current fishing conditions and what generally works better for your groups stay. We’d like to ensure a timely departure so please make sure to be at the designated pickup location 10-15 minutes before the charter starts.
Appropriate clothes for the weather: Jacket/Sweatshirt, sun-shirt, hat, sunglasses, rain-gear, waterproof shoes or sandals.
Sunscreen.
Food, Snacks, Beverages.
Any required medications (please alert the captain if you feel there's any important medical information he should know in the event of an emergency).
Space is limited aboard the vessel but there is a small portable toilet "head" on board. It is located in front of the center console and is mainly used in a "need to go" moment. But it's there if you need it!
We want you to enjoy your vacation and day out on the water. Alcoholic beverages are allowed on board in moderation, however hard alcohol is not. ZERO tolerance for any drugs on board. Excessive drinking or drugs on board will result in a return trip to the dock.
No, your license will be covered under ours during the duration of the trip.
To get the most out of your day out on the water, fishing trips are limited to 4 persons per trip. Family fun trips and harbor cruises are allowed up to 6 persons.
If you can't find a trip to suit your group's needs, no problem. Grey Dog is connected to some of the best guides in Maine. We can always set up a multi-boat trip for larger groups. But if that doesn't work then we'd be glad to connect you with some of the other pros in the area to make your trip a memorable one.
We prefer that you utilize the gear we have on board as it's already rigged and geared towards the fishing we'll encounter, but we'll never say no to someone who has that favorite rod/reel, that brand new set-up, or their very first fishing pole they're dying to catch a fish on.
The majority of fishing we do is right along the coast and the majority of people do not get seasick. However, if you are prone to motion sickness it is advised that you take an over-the-counter sickness medication if you are able and follow the directions as listed on that medication. We do our best to make sure everyone has a great time so if you start to feel woozy, let the captain know.
STRIPED BASS IS CATCH AND RELEASE ONLY ON THIS CHARTER. Mackerel, pollock, etc. can be kept upon guest request.
Please call, text, or email for weekdays, weekends can be booked online or over the phone/email. Let's discuss what dates I have open and what works best for you and your group.
Cancellations must be made within 7 calendar days for a full refund. Cancellations inside of 7 calendar days will lose their deposit. The captain reserves the right to make cancellations up to the morning of due to mechanical failure, weather conditions, sea conditions, and/or any other reason that would impact the safety of our guests.
Deposits and payment can be made by either cash, check, or Venmo. Although it is not required, tipping is also customary in the charter fishing industry similar to what you would do at a restaurant for good service. Whether it's a record day of fishing or the fish aren't biting, Captain Jay will go above and beyond to make sure you have the most memorable day out on the water.
